City of Scottsdale AZ Turns 60! Celebrations, events, exhibits, and savings!
This summer, the City of Scottsdale turns 60 - and all kinds of celebrations abound! From events, exhibits, and - my favorite - deals! (See the GREAT one for The Capital Grille - we already have reservations!)
The Scottsdale 60th anniversary celebrations scheduled through June 22 are:
Scottsdale Urban Chase
It's not your father's scavenger hunt! Teams will receive hints via email, Facebook and Twitter and use their digital cameras and phones to document and share their successes as they decode clues to find an array of Scottsdale landmarks and historic sites.
When: Clues released at 7:30 a.m., finish line check-in at 6:30 p.m. and awards at 7:30, June 18
Where: Various locations throughout the city, finish line clue: a restaurant with a no-necktie policy that has been a north Scottsdale landmark since 1957.

Scottsdale History Tour
Join Scottsdale Historian Don Hadder for a tour of the first half of Twentieth Century Scottsdale from the downtown up to the Scottsdale Airport. The guided bus tour begins and ends at Scottsdale Historical Museum (Little Red Schoolhouse) - Intersection of Brown & Main.
When: Tour begins at 8 a.m. and lasts approximately 3 hours, June 18

Racin' at the Basin 5K Run
This is a fast, fun, no-frills running series at the beaut iful Scottsdale Sports Complex. Whether you are looking to run your first 5K or a chance to improve your fitness you will enjoy this fantastic series. Chip-timing equipment tracks your two-loop run over the fun and challenging course.

This Much I Know. Mixed Media Journaling Exploration workshop
Participants will examine the place of Scottsdale and will be guided through a process to create a collage using found objects, textures and a variety of materials to produce a reflective journal entry about the city as space and identity.

History of the Famous Scottsdale Art District
Scottsdale has always been a mecca for artists from all over the country. Kathy Duley from the Scott sdale Art District will present the fascinating history of art in Scottsdale from a locally appreciated arts area to a worldwide renowned arts destination.

The Pink Pony Rides Again!
Scottsdale's oldest restaurant (est. 1947) is honoring the past by hosting a display of photos and memorabilia on loan f rom the Scottsdale Historical Society. The Pink Pony will also be dedicating a dish weekly which will represent the Pony's shared history with the city of Scottsdale throughout the decades. The recipes will be available to Pink Pony Patrons.

Young Artists and Authors Showcase
The theme is "Shaping Your Community for a Greener Future" for the 23rd Annual 'Young Artists and Authors Showcase' exhibition sponsored by the Scottsdale Sister Cities Association.
The competition of high school art and writing submissions from throughout Scottsdale will be professionally juried.

ArtWalk
"America's Original Art Walk" is in its 36th year and features dozens of art galleries, free parking and free trolley service to all corners of the Arts District.

Showcase display of Miss Arizona's Crown handcrafted in 1969 by Paul Johnson Jewelers
This spectacular crown is a one-of-a-kind work of Art designed by the Memorable Paul Johnson and handcrafted in 1969. The crown was gifted to The Miss Arizona Scholarship Foundation that annually awards state scholarships for academic achievements and outstanding community service.
